YouthBuild Ignites Hope with Groundbreaking Ceremony in Chicago

CDI YouthBuild Students Launch New Home Construction Project

The Community Development Institute (CDI) is proud to announce a momentous event that represents not just construction but transformation, empowerment, and community progress. This isn’t just another house, it’s a symbol of what’s possible when education, opportunity, and
community come together. Our YouthBuild participants, young adults committed to learning skilled trades, rebuilding their lives, and reshaping their neighborhoods, will lead the way in constructing the home from the ground up. Through hands-on training, mentorship, and real-world experience, these future builders are gaining more than just job skills, they’re building a pathway to success.

We’re honored to welcome local and state officials, community leaders, CDI Board Members, and special guests who are joining us to mark this exciting beginning. You’ll hear stories of impact, share in the vision of our YouthBuild initiative, and witness firsthand how workforce development is changing lives in our community.

Our students aren’t just building houses they’re building futures, for themselves and their communities.
— Aaron Royster, Executive Director, CDI

Why This Matters

In neighborhoods like ours, access to education, housing, and opportunity can make all the difference. Through our partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor, CYDI’s YouthBuild program equips young people with the tools they need to lead productive lives, while actively contributing to the improvement of our city. This new home at 7839 S. Union will stand as a living legacy of that mission.

This ceremony marks the beginning of something special – a project that will create lasting change in our community while providing real opportunities for young people to build careers in the construction trades. Come witness the moment when potential meets possibility, when hard work meets opportunity, and when a community comes together to build something bigger than any of us could create alone. The future is being built, one student at a time, one skill at a time, one home at a time. And it all starts on July 31st.

This ceremony is supported by a grant from The Chicago Community Trust. For more information about the Community Development Institute and our YouthBuild program, visit our website or contact us directly. Together, we’re not just building homes we’re building hope.
